Built early in the 1930s, the facility had experienced many years of smaller ad-hoc renovations. Our team identified UIC’s space type and technology requirements through intensive programming and visioning sessions — this was key to achieve the right results.
Team-based learning, patient simulation mannequins, and techniques for lecture capture and clinical observation allow for access to technology. Simulation labs and technically-loaded spaces were equipped with the latest services. AV systems, including distance learning, link with COM campuses in Rockford, Peoria, and Urbana - and when combined they create the largest College of Medicine in the United States.
Active learning classrooms employ testing systems meeting the very specific requirements of the testing protocols, and can be employed as break-out areas for discussing the day’s lecture topic for team-based activity, or to be shared with the entire class. Steps were taken to provide maximum flexibility for the AV systems, which also aid in acoustical separation via the introduction of a raised access floor designed to improve sound isolation.
