In recent years, the Aurora Theatre has been praised for its growing regional economic impact. Receiving regional, local, and national awards, it has become the second-largest professional performing arts theatre in the State of Georgia.
The new performing arts venue features a contemporary, yet respectful, design and includes a new state-of-the-art 500-seat Mainstage theatre, Cabaret theatre, office suites, and dedicated educational spaces for classes and practice. The project continues the dynamic transformation of the downtown Lawrenceville area.
Threshold provided acoustic support for the entire project, with a primary focus on the 500-seat Theater predominantly used for drama and musical theatrical performances. The space is also designed to hold lectures, amplified music, and other rental events. The primary acoustic objectives support the voice in spoken word in drama and song. For the unamplified voice, the shaping of the room and selection of finish materials placed an emphasis placed on maintaining speech intelligibility, support for the performers, acoustic intimacy, and control of excessive reverberance. For amplified performance, speech intelligibility and control of excessive reverberation are the primary considerations.
