Emma wants to be the sandpaper to your delivered product. That’s not a butchered metaphor meaning she’s full of grit, rather that she wants to smooth out the rough edges in your project.
Like many of our consultants, Emma grew up with a love for music and a love for technology. A choir kid with a background in classical music, she began college studying music education, having always looked up to music educators. However, it didn’t satiate her need to tinker. As a kid she broke open a stand mixer and would steal the hard-drives out of old computers. As a teenager she and her friends would hack together electronics for portable gaming systems. So how to bridge the two passions?
Luckily, Emma was able to switch her major to sound technology where she studied sounds systems, design, and how to run a recording studio among other things. She began mixing student shows and from there fell in love with the live sound program where her two interests clicked. Discovering live sound engineering and sound technology didn’t just join her two interests, it unlocked a guiding maxim for Emma: to uplift voices and clients’ visions as faithfully as possible.
She brought that energy with her when she moved to Chicago, finding a city she quickly called home in its diversity and community, rising quickly as an audio engineer and running shows. She joined Threshold, finding in the firm a place where she could nerd out even further about AV while helping clients.
Throughout her working career she has been joined by Horace, Commander in Squeak, a mascot and companion for every live event worked. He now joins her at her desk.
Outside of the office she spends time with her partner and dog and enjoys the city’s maker-DIY community – designing and creating electronics from scratch, giving her an additional opportunity to get her hands dirty and nerd out.
