Proceedings in the room can also be streamed to public gathering space in the lobby by way of digital signage systems, allowing small break-out meetings around the displays. Internet Protocol (IP) video is also available for anyone on the Brown network. Video conferencing systems are provided for the seminar room, aligned with standards developed for the National Science Foundation Access Grid, enabling ICERM’s participation in the national dialogue regarding research in mathematics.
The University’s new home for The Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) occupies two floors of a downtown Providence office tower. A 98-seat presentation space allows mathematicians to follow their instincts and write on the glass walls. Their work is projected on screens above them and is captured for later download by students who want a second take. The space reaches beyond Brown classroom standards, untethering the presenter from the confines of a SMART Board.
