“You gotta fix everything with wires coming out.” That was the main instruction given to Marc at his first job out of college: electronics officer. On a cruise ship.

If you’ve ever wanted to test your DIY skills, may we recommend repairing a theater’s AV system the day of a show while out at sea with only the materials available on board? While at times stressful, with the pressure of making sure the show did go on, Marc wound up realizing something about electronics: there’s very little you can’t fix, it’s more about the attitude you bring to the situation.

Since then, Marc’s brought that positive attitude to his entire career. As the living-where-you-work aspect of his job on the cruise ships wore off (something all of us during lockdown can relate to) he shifted back to land – working is way up to Chief Engineer for a company in Miami, then for a large integrator firm in Baltimore. He started his own firm in Cincinnati, still focusing on cruise ships and AV entertainment but now in new builds, br

As Marc shifted to working for Meyer Sound as a consultant liaison, he realized that consultants weren’t getting the attention they needed. From there he began to run into Thresholdians regularly, getting to know us and our work and eventually freelancing for us in 2016. His can-do attitude found a home here and we’re lucky to have his exceptional knowledge informing our projects.

As for being called back to sea? While thrilled he got the chance to see so much of the world through port calls when he was young, the idea of being gone for five months away from his family is no longer an attractive enterprise. In addition to all the work he does with Threshold, he also volunteers for a local Cincinnati organization (maywehelp.org), designing and building custom adapted equipment for handicapped people.
